After a week on the trail north

Monday evening 10th May stayed in the Warumbungle National Park. Next morning walked to the White Gum lookout with spectacular views over a volcanic valley. The rocky spires and domes visible throughout the park are all that is left of a large shield volcano that was active over 13 million years ago. The Warrumbungle Mountains are the last mountains west until the Kimberley range. Before we left we visited The Siding Spring Observatory which is still in use and was the telescope which relayed images from the moon landing in 1969.
Travelling inland stayed o/nite in Gwabegar. Known as the "Heart of the Pilliga" Gwabegar is roughly the geographical centre of the timber industries that grew and flourished in the western region of the Pilliga and once sported no less than twelve sawmills. Next day travelled to Pilliga where we camped for a few nights by and enjoyed the Pilliga Bore Baths - a very comfortable 37 - 39 degrees. The Pilliga Bore constructed in 1902 as a permanent town water supply after severe drought, the Bore has become a popular recreational spot for swimming and there therapeutic value has long been recognised.
13/05/11:
Having experienced the very rough roads inland we decided to travel to Boomi along sealed road through WeeWaa out to Narrabri and onto Moree.
14/05/11:
Next day contacted my sister Isabel via Mobile phone to get a friends mobile in Boomi to find Isabel and her husband Peter also on the road travelling from Wagga Wagga to Goondiwindi and was only two hours south of Moree. We waited in Moree and had lunch together. Travelled onto Boomi and Isabel and Peter also travelled out to Boomi where we stayed just out of the Boomi Village camped out on a friends property. We all had a wonderful evening "dining out" at the Boomi Pioneer Hotel. Thanks to Gabrielle and Harry for their hospitality and it was great to catch up again.
15/05/11:
Before leaving Boomi we just had to have a dip in the Boomi Artesian Bore Bath. Its just so refreshing, relaxing and exhilarating.
Arrived in Goondiwindi around 2.30pm, staying the night camped out the front of my niece, husband and four children, the 3rd and 4th 12 week old nidentical twins home. My sister and her husband also went to Goondiwindi and camped out the front in their caravan. They are travelling home to Mt Nathan on the Gold Coast tomorrow and we are continuing our travels north. After a few cuddles I've decided to post a blog as before in some locations along the way have not had adequate internet coverage or for some reason or another the blogger site was temporarily unavailable.
I will endeavour to post some photos as soon as I become a little more proficient with blogging.
